Looking for new perspectives for Kherson in Kazakhstan

The first conference «Caspian ports and shipping 2019» took place in Aktau, Kazakhstan on 13-15 of May 2019. Deputy Chairman of the Board of Baltic Black Sea Economic Forum Mr. Volodymyr Makukha was one of the speakers. He’d told to our correspondent the following: Kazakhstan is on of engines of creation and development of international transport corridor which connect Europe with central corridor of new silk rout. The Conference which took place in Aktau became continuation of the Aktau Sammit which was held the previous year. Level and geography if it’s participants speak about high value of the event. Head of ports, railway administrations, representatives of marine fleet and forwarding companies, logistics specialists from Kazakhstan, China, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Austria, India, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan and others (about 20 countries).

Especial attention was devoted to project of creation of international corridor of effective cooperation and single logistics center «Global Multimodal Logistics» in Kherson which were initiates on the frame work of Baltic Black Sea Economic Forum. Already mentioned projects united besides Kherson partners from Lithuanian Klaipeda, Poland Gdynia, Georgian Batumi. They caused high interest and support from Kazakh partners. Negotiations during the conference resulted into agreement to start the process of joining the project by new Kazakh port of city Kuryk. Its General Director Mr. Serik Ahmetov expressed confidence that participation of sea port Kuryk in the mentioned projects would be not only mutually beneficial but it will be additional platform for development of cooperation between Kazakh companies and those from Kherson, Klaipeda, Gdynia and other partners of the international projects. Head of Aktaut international trade sea port Mr. Abai Turikpenbaev also expressed readiness to participate in the projects. Dialog about potential participation in the projects of Azerbaijan Sea Port in Baku was started. On the Conference the port was presented by Marketing Director of Baku Sea Port Mr. Mammas Hamidov.

During the Conference official letter from the Head of Kherson State Maritime Academy and proposal of cooperation was consigned to the Head of Kazakh Maritime Academy (Almaty). From Kazakh side honorary mission will be executed by the General Director of Kazmortransflot Mr. Marat Ormanov. He expressed confidence that accession of Kazakh Maritime Academy to partner team of Kherson State Maritime Academy, Lithuanian Maritime Academy, Maritime University of Gdynia and Batumi State Maritime Academy will become an important step of not only new possibilities for preparation of professional staff (e.g. for such companies as Kazmortransflot) but also for strengthening and development of cooperation between countries–partners of the project.

P.S. Participants of the Conference noticed possibility for Kherson Sea Trade port to participate in the project of international corridor of effective cooperation. According to its rate features Kherson will not be able to compete with ports-partners of the project, so Kherson is considered as one of the appropriate elements for coordination. Herewith everything depends on actual implementation of project related to its rehabilitation and development which prepared by Lithuanian and Ukrainian specialists using proposed model of public-private partnership.
