Uzbekistan is a reliable support in Central Asia!

05.11.2020

Today (November 5) Kherson hosted a working meeting of Deputy Chairman of the Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum, Volodymyr Makukha, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ukraine, Bakhodir Ibragimov, and Trade and Economic Affairs Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ukraine, Bobur Rasulov. Zaur Sikoyev, Executive Director of Ltd. "Group" Sodruzhestvo ", also took part in the meeting.

Emphasis was placed on the relevance of the project of establishing a corridor of effective cooperation from the Baltic Sea to the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea, which was initiated at the forum, on the importance of its further development and active involvement of Uzbekistan enterprises, institutions and organizations.

Based on the example of creating a "Gdynia Triangle" in Europe (Gdynia and Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland, Klaipeda in Lithuania, Kherson and Kherson region in Ukraine), as a powerful driver of the project in Europe, it is advisable to create a similar triangle in Central Asia, combining a strong partnership of representatives of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

This "Central Asian" triangle is able to provide the necessary effect of promoting cooperation between enterprises, organizations and institutions of various sectors of Europe (both countries of the EU and the "Eastern Partnership") and Asia.

In addition, the opportunities offered to partners by the Effective Cooperation Corridor project create effective mechanisms for implementing the UN Vienna Program of Action for landlocked countries.

The initiative of Kazakhstan to develop a roadmap for such countries, supported by the UN Secretary - General in March this year, can also be considered as an additional argument.

The importance and prospects of partnership and joint development of the international project of the effective cooperation corridor from the Baltic coast to the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea, with the expansion of its geography and active involvement of Uzbekistan partners is even more evident during the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine restrictions. According to Bobur Rasulov, Trade and Economic Affairs Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ukraine, Uzbek companies have faced significant problems with restricting the movement of cargo between Uzbekistan and European countries. Significant restrictions imposed by the governments of number of countries on the transit of cargo through their territory forced them to choose alternative routes, that on average doubled the cost of delivery.

Examples of non-standard approaches to solving such problems by the basic participants of the project in the Caspian Sea - the modern seaport Kuryk and one of the leaders in the transport and logistics industry of Turkmenistan, Turkmen Milli Logistics, were given as factual arguments for the importance of joint efforts.

Agreeing with the expediency of promoting more active communication of cargo operators from Uzbekistan with the Kazakh port of Kuryk, the company Turkmen Milli Logistics and the Turkmenistan port of Turkmenbashi, building partnerships with them, Bobur Zakirovych said, that he plans to inform line Ministries about the prospects of joint participation in the development of the project of establishing effective cooperation corridor, as well as intensifying cooperation with the port of Kuryk (Kazakhstan), Turkmen Milli Logistics and the port of Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan).

Issues related to Ukraine’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia were discussed separately, including focusing on the development prospects that this cooperation opens up for Kherson and the Kherson region. The initiative to expand the role of U-Port United company, which is part of the British-Ukrainian U-Port Group and has been appointed project coordinator, in the segment of organizing the movement of cargo through Ukraine, was approved. In particular, it is about the possibility of direct communication between all international partners (ports, transport - logistic and stevedoring companies, etc.) and participation in planning and actions coordination through U-Port United with representatives of the transport industry of Ukraine.
