Maritime Heritage University – Developing Unique Talents in Klaipeda

Klaipeda University is the only university in Lithuania specialising in maritime science and technology.   

Development of talents and provision of  quality education is what every university strives for. From the business perspective, the value that the university adds to the city is of major importance. Largest in the Western Region of Lithuania, KU prepares competent professionals in the fields of engineering, business management, finance, logistics, IT, and other. As a national and Baltic Region leader in the field of maritime sciences and studies, integrated into international academic networks, and a fosterer of cultural heritage, KU attracts students from all over the world.

Established in 1991 with the aim of strengthening Lithuania's as a maritime state position, KU boasts highly specialised maritime degree programmes preparing young professionals for the journey into the still vastly undiscovered aquatic world. Surely, the biggest underwater discoveries are still ahead, and KU hopes to play a significant part in making them.

The second important mission of Klaipeda University is to ensure social and cultural development of the Western Region of Lithuania. The exclusive geographic position of KU provides the basis for the implementation of such study programmes as Shipping and Port Engineering, Hydrology and Oceanography, and Biology and Maritime Biotechnology. In addition, KU has one of the best scientific research and study bases in the Baltic Sea Region, including the research/ survey vessel Mintis [Thought], which has already participated in significant scientific projects in Poland, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, and Germany as well as in the geological mapping of the Lithuanian marine area  from Juodkrantė on  the Curonian Spit to the border with Russia. Moreover, in accordance with the studies quality index, Klaipėda University boasts the best IT and Mechanical Engineering programmes in Lithuania.

Klaipeda University, which belongs to EU-CONEXUS (European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability), an advanced consortium of European higher education institutions, announces a newly developed Blue Growth Leaders' Academy programme to be launched in September 2020.
 
For its participants - executives, professionals in various fields, and gifted students - the acquired competencies will help to discover new niches, develop innovative products or services, and achieve a more sustainable use of marine resources.

The project has no analogues either in Lithuania or in other neighboring countries.

Its exclusive programme, to be implemented by a team of top experts - internationally acclaimed researchers and practitioners from Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, 
will cover the following thematic areas:
